Nordino’s story

STORY:

Nordino, a Mozambique worker (where?) faithfully saved his kerosene money for five months with the goal of putting  a tin roof on his house. Because of his savings success, we was able to take out a farm loan for just $40 to purchase the tin and get it installed before the rains came in December.

How excited Nordino was to give his boys a real roof over their heads. He had never slept in a house with a real roof growing up, and it was something Nordino wanted to give his family. Nordino was excited for his family to hear the sound of rain on their new roof.

It was the lady who gave us those lights, he said, who made me want to try hard to save my money.

The other guys are all still using there lights and our guards keep them on the farm for overnight use.

IMPACT:

  • After five months, Nordino had saved more than $100 towards the purchase of tin so he could install a new roof before the rains came in December.

  • Incredibly excited he was to give his sons a real roof over their heads. He himself had never slept in a house with a real roof and he wanted to give that to his boys.

  • Stated “the lady who gave us the lights” made him want to try and save money
