Lighthouse Model

A four-year scaling initiative to distribute our solar lights within a specific region.

It’s a long-term investment into a community, focusing on large-scale distribution. We target communities based on their access to electricity, geography, and population.

How do you light a nation in a day?

The solution is simple… it starts with lighting one home, then a village, then a nation.

Watts of Love partners with in-country organizations and invests in local leadership to ensure a sustainable approach to distributing our solar lights and delivering our financial education training. Our goal is to empower program recipients to thrive within their communities, using resources and knowledge that are rooted in their local environment.

Through our local partnerships, we identify and select in-country representatives to lead distribution events and serve as trainers. These selected team members are critical to the success of Lighthouse distributions. To maintain consistency and quality, we train all representatives in the “Watts of Love Way” using a standardized curriculum. This ensures our approach is culturally adaptable and effective across diverse regions worldwide.

We have always recognized that creating a sustainable program means scaling our efforts and prioritizing the communities we serve. While we value sending travel teams to work with our program recipients, we intentionally invest in local leaders. This approach not only strengthens their ability to educate their communities but also ensures our lights and training are distributed in a manner that is sustainable and culturally relevant.

Our in-country representatives are uniquely equipped for this work because they speak the local language, understand the cultural nuances, and are embedded within the communities they serve. Leaders are chosen thoughtfully to reflect the diversity of the region - considering age, gender, ability, and social standing - so they can inspire and empower others effectively. By fostering self-sufficiency and drawing from local talent, we aim to help communities build brighter futures led by their own members.
