Lighthouse Model

A four-year scaling initiative to distribute our solar lights within a specific region.

It’s a long-term investment into a community, focusing on large-scale distribution. We target communities based on their access to electricity, geography, and population.

How do you light a nation in a day?

The solution is simple… it starts with lighting one home, then a village, then a nation.

Watts of Love partners with in-country organizations and invests in local leadership to create a sustainable environment for light distribution. We want our light recipients to be successful where they are, with resources that are indigenous to their community.

With the help of our local partners, we are able to select in-country Watts of Love representatives to lead our Distribution Day Event. These selected team members become our trainers and are the key to making Lighthouse distribution a success. We train our trainers in the Watts of Love Way. We have designed a training curriculum so each trainer is learning consistent information and the Watts of Love approach can be translated interculturally, all over the globe.

We always knew that to create a sustainable program, we needed to scale and focus on the communities we serve. We love sending travel teams to work with our light recipients, however,  we choose to invest our money in the local leaders to educate their individual communities and distribute lights the Watts of Love Way.

We want in-country, Watts of Love representatives who speak the local language, understand, and live in the culture of the community we are serving. Our Watts of Love local leaders are chosen to accurately represent the regions based on age, gender, ability, and status. We aim for communities to create self-sufficiency and look to their own community members for inspiration and empowerment.
