Watts of Love continues to innovate and expand the impact for a thriving and abundant future in energy-poor communities.

No longer using kerosene, Solar energy is the best answer to energy poverty, and it can provide excellent opportunities for reduction of GHG emissions and indoor air pollution.

We believe light is the fastest way out of poverty. Watts of Love’s financial literacy model teaches individuals to leverage their new savings to invest in their future – livestock, school fees, microbusinesses.

Watts of Love intentionally trains and empowers families to use their savings to invest in animal husbandry and livestock.

Our solar light provides hours of productivity to raise crops, create food and abundance to provide families.

We empower families to save their resources to invest in chickens, goats, and to save up for larger purchases such as pigs and cows. This enables families to have increased income and food resources.

We’ve seen family after family able to feed themselves using their savings and extra productivity time from their Watts of Love light and empowerment training.

GOOD HEALTH & WELL-BEING

Having a light at night creates a safe environment from intruders of all kinds. It prevents attacks and helps find unwelcome critters like snakes, spiders, and more.

Watts of Love’s renewable solar-charged lights cut dependence on toxic kerosene and throw-away batteries.

Solar energy can provide excellent opportunities for the reduction of GHG emissions and indoor air pollution. Watts of Love created a safe product to replace dangerous lighting consumption.

QUALITY EDUCATION

Without access to light at night to study, children are limited to daylight hours, dim and toxic kerosene light, or expensive battery-powered flashlights. With Watts of Love solar lights, children can safely study for extra hours every day while at home from school.

With solar lights, families no longer burn kerosene or other unrenewable resources to give students more light and time to study. With savings from their teaching, families can pay their children’s school fees themselves – they are not dependent on sponsorship programs. Lighting allows for safer travel to and from school.

GENDER EQUALITY

Watts of Love intentionally seeks out to create equal opportunities for male and female leaders in the communities we serve.

We intentionally seek to empower women and elevate their status. We encourage them to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities for economic success.

Watts of Love has learned from our female light recipients the power and self-worth they achieve when they receive a Watts of Love solar light and our empowerment training.

When women are elevated into roles of authority and leadership as Watts of Love representatives, biased beliefs regarding gender are challenged.

CLEAN WATER

When someone has a light, they can better decide what is safe.

By eliminating the need for kerosene, burning firewood, and the use of batteries, reduces the number of those items that end up in landfills, and it ensures that those hazardous sources are not polluting the surrounding bodies of water.

Affordable, Clean Energy

With a solar light, a family in extreme poverty experiences an immediate improvement in health, safety, and economic opportunity.

Energy is the dominant contributor to climate change, accounting for around 60 percent of total global greenhouse gas emissions. Indoor air pollution from using combustible fuels for household energy caused 4.3 million deaths in 2012, with women and girls accounting for 6 out of every 10 of these.

Watts of Love focuses on the global “energy poor.” This population spends more than 10-15% on energy services. Families can use their newfound savings to purchase livestock, increase study time, and work after dark.

Decent Work and Economic Growth

Watts of Love strategically empowers communities with the understanding they can be self-sufficient and self-reliant. By using their savings to invest in their own futures through animals, small businesses, and education.

The Watts of Love curriculum has effectively taught thousands of families to dream bigger.  Following our teaching and empowerment coaching, they were then able to start micro-businesses, chicken farms, small shops, and animal husbandry.

Watts of Love enters a community with the exit strategy that families will be able to be financially free through financial literacy and empowerment.

Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

Watts of Love continues to innovate and expand the impact for a thriving and abundant future in energy-poor communities.

Reduced Inequalities

We believe light shines on all equally and that it is possible to light entire regions and communities.

We seek out marginalized people groups and work to elevate them by including them in our training and placing them in roles of leadership while representing Watts of Love.  We work with groups are ostracized, hunted, and attacked.

We challenge locally biased beliefs and help provide a bridge and a means for a positive interaction with these groups.

Watts of Love has a strategic vision for providing opportunity by introducing our unique educational curriculum that introduces financial literacy and encourages savings. Watts of Love trains, equips, and empowers the people we meet.

Sustainable Cities and Communities

Watts of Love was founded to provide vulnerable communities increased health and well-being through solar lights.

By promoting the use of our proprietary solar-powered lights, Watts of Love has measurable impacts on public safety and preventable deaths and injuries due to kerosene usage.

Our financial literacy provides a solution without creating dependency through a unique educational curriculum.

Our empowerment teaching and solar lights provide opportunity and the understanding for families to create their own sustainable well-being.

Watts of Love created a safe product to replace dangerous lighting consumption.

Investing in local leaders utilizes human capital more efficiently allowing us to achieve greater success.

Watts of Love’s renewable solar-charged lights cut dependence on toxic kerosene and throw-away batteries. We continue to innovate and expand the impact for a thriving and abundant future in energy poor communities.

Climate Action

Black carbon inhaled from household air pollution is the reason for almost half of pneumonia deaths in children under the age of five.

Household air pollution is one of the world’s largest contributor to climate change. A simple kerosene lamp produces nearly 15,500 kg of black carbon over 30 years.

Kerosene lamps alone emit 230 million of tons of CO2 each year. Due to a short lifespan in the atmosphere, reducing black carbon would almost instantly slow global warming. A solar light eliminates all of that.

Life Below Water

Many of our light recipients are fishermen.  They use kerosene and other means to be able to night fish.  We have seen the success they have by using our lights to feed their families and eliminate the pollution they provide to the sea.

By eliminating the need for kerosene, burning firewood, and the use of batteries, it ensures that those hazardous sources are not polluting the surrounding bodies of water.

Soil and water can be contaminated when the battery acid seeps into the ground and water sources. This pollution can affect the supply of drinking water. If batteries are dumped near the ocean, the sulfuric acid and lead could endanger marine life. Cleaner water means healthier marine life, and cleaner and safer sources of food for so many who depend on oceans, lakes, and rivers to provide food.

Life on Land

So many of the areas we serve rely on slash and burn farming practices, destroying forests, and providing little return. House fires often get out of control because of dry climates.

By providing a solar light, communities can consider alternative means of income, and safer sources of light.

Solar light brings radical relief to communities that depend on firewood and contribute to deforestation. We have seen that within a few years of distributing solar lights, communities have abundance, are able to farm and raise animals.

Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

Watts of Love seeks to bring light into dark places. We are passionate about bringing light to all who are in need. We are grateful for partnerships that bring our lights to refugees and people in unrestful situations. Watts of Love is able to provide a sustainable and useful solar light.

Light is a great need in situations of unrest and instability. With light people are able to continue to be productive and have the feeling of safety. We also seek out marginalized people groups and work to elevate them by including them in our training and placing them in roles of leadership while representing Watts of Love.

Partnership for the Goals

Watts of Love partners with many incredible organizations that are combating poverty, bringing relief to desperate communities, and providing essential education for life and success.

Watts of Love is intentional about having purposeful partnerships in which we can work together for the greatest impact.

We seek out NGO organizations that share our values and our heart to serve, and we come alongside them to multiply our efforts.

We invest in local leadership and they are included in our unique curriculum. When we collaborate with other organizations, we can elevate communities in a multitude of ways.

We have heard countless times that light is essential to assure good health, to be able to provide medical and dental care, to be able to provide a sustainable source of food and income. It starts with light, and everything changes.  It ends with self-worth and independence.
