Benedicto Lopez

 BEFORE

• Prior to receiving the lamp, he used candles and a gas lamp (not kerosene, another form of fuel) to light his home at night.

• He stated the smoke made it difficult to breathe and he knew it wasn’t healthy.

AFTER

• Benedicto estimates that he gained back 500 quetzals per year.

• With his newfound income, he has been able to provide school supplies for his children.

• Benedicto’s daily life has become easier to manage because he can now complete daily tasks early in the morning (prior to leaving for work) and at dinner time in the evening.

Story

Benedicto Lopez has had his lamp for one year. When we returned to Germania to visit him, he stated that he enjoys using the lamp for daily tasks. For example, he wakes up very early (4 a.m.) to go to work, and now he can see in the dark and make the corn tortillas in the morning hours. He can also use it to make dinner for his family between 7-10 p.m. Benedicto has three children. 

He estimates that he has gained back 500 quetzals during the last year. Benedicto has used the money to purchase school supplies for his children.
