DedZa, Malawi

ESTABLISHED 2021

History

The Dedza District sits between Mozambique and Lake Malawi and is home to over 900,000 people. Many families here survive on an average of $11 a month—resulting in half the population living below the ultra-poverty line. As a last resort, many children are forced into marriage to relieve financial stress on a family, often before the age of 18.

WATTS INvolvement

Watts of Love is focusing on providing solar lights and financial literacy training to rescued child brides, their families, and families at risk in and around Dedza. With our lights, financial stability will be possible without the option of marrying off their children.

Together, we can save thousands of young children from being forced into marriage and parenthood at a young age.

Our Partners & Trainers

In 2021, this Lighthouse was launched in partnership with the Nazareth Foundation and Chief Kacindamoto, who is responsible for freeing thousands of child marriages. The local team of trainers have been trained in the Watts of Love Way and vary in age, gender, language, and ability to build relationships with ALL light recipients and empower ALL individuals who may not otherwise have an opportunity. We are so grateful for their partnership.
